1. R-Lipoic Acid Products

When it comes to R-Lipoic Acid, some people want the quick absorption and fast action of water-soluble salts, while others prefer the slow absorption and longer half-life of oil-based products. GeroNova scientists and medical advisors currently believe the optimal dosing strategy may involve both forms in equal amounts of 75-600 mg/day.

A. Quick absorption water-soluble R-Lipoic Acid salts (Bio-Enhanced® R-Lipoic Acid)

Without special processing, R Lipoic Acid is highly unstable and difficult to absorb. See the pharmacokinetic data. The products below feature R-Lipoic Acid stabilized with either sodium (Na-RALA) or potassium (Potassium-R-Lipoate).

The benefit of water-soluble salts is that they reach high blood levels and are taken up into the tissues quickly. In fact, blood and tissue levels achieved from water-soluble R-Lipoic Acid salts are comparable to that attained with IV injections!

B. Slower absorption oil-based R-Lipoic Acid (RLA/R-DHLA)  R-PLUS

As stated above, R Lipoic Acid is highly unstable and difficult to absorb unless it has been specially processed. The products below contain a 50/50 mixture of stabilized R-Lipoic Acid and its reduced form R-Dihydrolipoic Acid, also known as R-DHLA. The two forms work closely together in the body, swapping electrons with each other as needed to fight free radicals.

The benefit of oil-based R-Lipoic Acid is that it has a longer half life, meaning it stays in the body longer. In fact, blood levels of regular users can be measured for several days after dosing.
